Preceded in death by his beloved wife of 59 years, Janine Doherty, he is survived by their children Bill (Laura) Doherty, Tom (Kim) Doherty, Mari (Darin) Ellis, Cara (Barry) Boggs, and Dan (Paula) Doherty, his sister Sr. Tom was a generous and loving man and will be greatly missed. He took every opportunity to brag about his kids and grandkids. The center of Tom’s world was his wife and family. Outside of spending time with family and friends, travel was their joy.
After retiring from the university, Tom and Jan began traveling the world in earnest. He began a second career as Associate Director of Purchasing for the University of Michigan hospital. Army as Major.įollowing his military retirement, Tom and Jan settled in Flint. He served over 20 years in the military, retiring from the U.S. They raised five children as Tom pursued his education throughout his military career ultimately earning his master’s degree. He came to America at age 19 and later joined the U.S.
He was born in Foxford, Ireland on October 30,1937 to Bridget (McNulty) and William Doherty. Doherty of Superior Township, Michigan, age 82, passed away on April 23, 2020.
